AHDC'S VETERINARY MEDICAL DIRECTOR

MEHRDAD SHAHBAZI, DVM, MS

Dr. Shahbazi completed his degree in 1993 at the Veterinary School of Shiraz University, Iran. He primarily worked in large and small animal medicine until 2007 when he moved to the United States. After moving to the US, he had the opportunity to work as a Veterinary Science Instructor at San Joaquin Valley College, (Fresno Campus), for two years. Being highly motivated in the veterinary field, in 2012 he decided to earn his master’s degree in Animal Science Nutrition and graduated in December 2014 from Fresno State University, CA. The following year he was hired by the USDA -Veterinary Services helping the USDA to contain the avian influenza pandemic in 2016 nationwide. After completing the task with USDA, he began his journey to achieve his veterinary medicine license in the United States.  After one year of hard work, and passing several exams, Dr. Shahbazi was licensed in December of 2017. After obtaining his Veterinary License, he immediately started practicing in small animal hospitals and held positions at HOPE Animal Foundation, Care Veterinary Hospital in Fresno, Taylor Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Turlock, and finally accepting a position at Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic in September 2019, and currently holds the position as our hospitals' Medical Director.  Dr Shahbazi has a very compassionate heart towards all his furry patients and enjoys his career. He performs all of our hospitals surgeries which  range from routine spays and neuters to C-sections, cystotomy and dental surgeries, as well as diagnosis and treatment of patients.

       In his personal life, he enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, traveling, and                   socializing with friends and family. In recent years he has traveled many             times to Canada, visiting his family members and enjoying British                         Columbia's intact and glorious nature.  

 

GARY BRANDT,  DVM 

Doctor Brandt was a member of the faculty of the Veterinary Collage at Kansas State University for 30 years. He practiced equine and small animal medicine in California for 15 years and is Board Certified in Veterinary Theriogenology. Presently he is specializing in small animal reproduction and has a strong interest in small animal medicine. Doctor Brandt has a vast amount of experience and knowledge from years of practicing medicine. He’s known for taking on the hard cases and really seeing them through until he’s able to diagnose and treat. We love having him as part of out team and appreciate all that he does. 

 

SALLY COOK
 VETERINARY PRACTICE MANAGER 
 

Sally is a great addition to our practice. As our Veterinary Practice Manager, she's in charge of almost everything from being the first one at the hospital in the morning to being the last one to leave at night. With over 20 years in the veterinary field, she knows exactly what to do in every situation. Sally has 2 dogs (Ike & Odie), 20 chickens, and a wonderful, wonderful husband that lets us borrow her to run our hospital.
